I am a former NFL Football player and I want to talk today about offensive lineman. My friend and fellow Football University Coach Irv Eatman spoke to me about some practice drills that are great for offensive lineman. On all drills, we base the fact that we want our lineman to be lateral movers. We want the to be able to move side to side. We want them to be able to slide there feet. In each drill we teach them not to turn away fro the line of scrimmage. We do not want there hips and shoulders to open. We want everything in front of them like a baseball catcher.Drills number one - Running ropesFirst week we have them hit every other hole. Hands chin high. Arms flexed like a boxer. Hand six to eight inches from there chin so they can still punch. We go down and back and down and back 4 times. This is not a speed drill.Second week we have them start standing besides the ropes. As they go through the ropes we grab them and hit them to see if they and stay balanced?Drill number two - Wave DrillThe wave drill emphasizeschange of direction and lateral movement. You can have some fun with this drill. You can catch the lineman off balance when they are not concentrating. It is a good drill to teach them to keep there shoulders square.Drill number three - Big Bertha Bag DrillWe have big bags that holds about 300 pounds of sand. We bang on that bag every day. It is hung on a swing set apparatus. The players bang the bag and keep there feet open and there shoulders square. You can have the lineman in a 2 point or 3 point stance. As soon as the bag swings forward you have the player hit the bag. Have the player 4 or 5 good reps. This offensive lineman drill teaches the players to use there hands and develop a good punch. For more detailed information about offensive lineman drills go to my football coaching website listed below.

They're in the mix. Most people are capable of most jobs and careers out there. Some just happened to be immersed in a specific world with just the right people to give them just the right advice and connections Example..34 NFL Teams - 2 of the starting quarterbacks are brothers-Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts )-Eli Manning (New York)You: what the hell does this have to do with StartupsStartupbeat: just about everything i thinkWould you be surprised if I told you that father of the Manning brothers used to be an NFL quarterback too? (Archie Manning) Ever since they were young, they were heavily immersed with football. As their dad had the insider knowledge of the game, the Manning brothers were in the mix. One can say they're lucky. But this is reality. By the way, for all of you who don't know, these guys are getting paid like millions a year and we're talking 8 digits ($##,###,###)This is exactly my point. The Manning brothers' had the opportunity of knowing the right people, receiving the right advice, and being coached the right way. I believe this analogy applies to internet startups too. The same internet entrepreneurs are starting great companies over and over again. Are we missing something here? Yes. It's because they're in the mix. It's not easy getting in the mix as it's not easy becoming an NFL quarterback, but I believe that If we immerse ourselves with the industry, get the right advice, and find the right connections, we have a better chance of making it as an internet startup. The Mix.

After months of analysis and projections leading up to the April 25-26 NFL draft followed by days of draft recap and team grades, we focus on what really matters to us; how the draft affects our fantasy football leagues. While we may have thoughts on the absurdity of the contracts signed by high draft picks, it has no effect on our fantasy football team's payroll.Players may have been drafted higher or lower than projected, but that has no impact on where they will be drafted in our leagues. What matters most to us is if the player will play and if it will be this year or in upcoming years. Let's take a quick spin through the NFC and look at each team's new additions that could factor into our fantasy football drafts.Arizona - The Cards happily grabbed RB Chris "Beanie" Wells with the first pick in the second round. He will play immediately as Edgerrin James was released and Tim Hightower appears to be best suited as a goal-line back.Beanie should be drafted in one-season in rounds 4-5 in standard 12-team leagues and rounds 3-4 in Keeper leagues.Atlanta - Eight picks, all on defense. So, obviously, the Falcons D is the only position that improved. They have some solid additions to support their corners as well as help John Abraham, especially DT Peria Jerry, S William Moore and DE Lawrence Sidbury. This will propel them into the top half of draftable defenses.Carolina - DE Everette Brown and S Sherrod Martin will help the defense a bit, though not near as much as keeping Julius Peppers will.Their defense should remain in the same draft position.Chicago - The Bears did pretty well considering they only drafted on Day 2.WR Juaquin Iglesias is a nice addition to a weak receiving core and could be a productive late round pick on draft day.DT Jarron Gilbert will help the Bears D out a bit, though not altering their draft position.Dallas - The Cowboys traded their way into a lot of worthless picks.Even though the Cowboys had no draftable backup QB last year, I do not believe that QB Stephen McGee is in that category this year.If you draft QB Tony Romo, your backup should be a starting QB on another team.Detroit - QB Matthew Stafford is giddy knowing that he will be given the reigns to a winless team, so the bar for success in worm-high.It also brings a rare smile to his face when he envisions WR Calvin Johnson in his huddle. However, he is still a rookie QB on a winless team, so don't pick him as your number 1 QB.He should be drafted higher in Keeper leagues.TE Brandon Pettigrew is a must-draft TE in later rounds.Green Bay - Green Bay's D was productive in the TD category last season, but was a bit of a sieve.Adding DT B.J. Raji and LB Clay Matthews enhances this position a few rounds.Minnesota - The Vikings grabbed WR Percy Harvin to add a new dimension to their offense. The kid can flat-out play, if he adjusts to life in the Twin Cities.I would definitely recommend picking him up in early double-digit rounds.New Orleans - The Saints' D was startable at certain times last season coming off the waiver wire. That will change a bit this year with the additions of CB Malcolm Jenkins and S Chip Vaughn.I feel good recommending drafting them in the last round.New York Giants - The G-Men addressed their biggest need right away by drafting WR Hakeem Nicks. He should be drafted in early double digit rounds.I would recommend a late round handcuff of RB Andre Brown if you draft Brandon Jacobs.RB Derrick Ward is now on Tampa so Brown will be taking over for him.Philadelphia - Philly will have the most rookies drafted this year. They landed WR Jeremy Maclin, TE Cornelius Ingram and RB LeSean McCoy.Maclin may be a DeSean Jackson clone in play making ability, which is good if he waits until he crosses the goal line to celebrate his scores.Ingram will be a favorite target of McNabb when he needs a tough catch across the middle and McCoy is a must-draft handcuff to Westbrook.Seattle - LB Aaron Curry will definitely help Seattle on defense, but makes no difference in fantasy land.WR Deon Butler was drafted to replace Bobby Engram, but I see no reason to draft him unless you are in a really deep league.San Francisco - The Niners get a gift in picking up WR Michael Crabtree with the 10th pick.He is the class of the receiving group and will be a flat-out receiving stud in the NFL.I don't think you'll get him if you wait until the middle rounds of your draft. You especially want to grab him early in your Keeper Leagues. In addition to Crabtree, the Niners picked up RB Glen Coffey who should be your handcuff to Frank Gore.St. Louis - The Rams picked up T Jason Smith to replace Orlando Pace and will show immediate dividends in the passing and running game as Pace is vastly overrated and almost stationary nowadays. That being said, Marc Bulger is a late draft pick and Steven Jackson is still a first round pick.As much as I love LB James Laurinaitis, he doesn't make the Rams D draftable in any format.Tampa Bay - Good luck with QB Josh Freeman. If he only played as well as he talks. He has the size for an NFL QB (6' 6"), but I don't even recommend drafting him in a Keeper League.Washington - The Skins further enhanced their defensive front by drafting DE Brian Orakpo. In addition to line help, they also grabbed two LBs and CB Kevin Barnes. This greatly enhances the attraction of the Washington D and moves them into the top 8-10 defenses to draft.

It is time once again to hold the NFL draft and pick college athletes that want to go into the professional football league. Each year, hundreds of hopefuls meet to show sports scouts what they can offer to a pro ball team about ten weeks before the actual draft takes place. They are tested, not only by their ability to play ball, but are also given a personality test and an intelligence test. While these tests are not the most important, players this year like Vince Young, a potential new quarterback, who might not have scored as high as people hoped, might not be drafted. There is some speculation as to why he was permitted to retake the test. It was blamed on a test marker's error, but some feel he was given a second chance. This is only one of the many exciting events going on in the weeks before the NFL draft. The official draft of 2006 will be held in ten weeks. This means the players need to show off as much as possible in front of sports agents and scouts who will decide their fate. Other players in the running for a quarterback position are Jay Cutler and Michael Huff. They are the favorites at the moment. There is a great amount of tension in the weeks leading up the announcements. Many people play football for the chance to go pro. While there are many hopefuls, only a select few will go on to earn big paychecks and get their shot at the Super Bowl.Being drafted does not only mean playing pro ball, but also means endorsement packages which could make a person a lot of money. Once a player has turned pro, they are often offered commercials or even movie or two. Not all players in the NFL are offered endorsements, only players that audiences identity with and admire. However, all players aspire to make that extra cash. So, when draft time comes around, you can be sure what will be on the minds of those hopefuls.

Only one current running back - LaDainian Tomlinson - merits being named one of the NFL's all-time 10 best, and only one other guy who has played in the 21st century - Emmitt Smith - makes the list. Does that mean today's RBs are worse than before? No, but times have changed ... there are two reasons why the old-timers dominate this ranking.First, although RBs remain roughly the same size, defensive tackles have become enormous and linebackers and strong safeties have gotten much faster and to counter that, a passing attack has become more prominent. Second, the 16-game season gives backs such a pounding that most teams use a "running back by committee" system or insert a second-stringer with a contrasting style to give their starter a rest, hence diminishing his importance.OK, LaDainian and Emmitt, here are your partners.1. Jim Brown. No one has ever combined power and speed the way Brown did at 6-2, 228. In his nine seasons before he abruptly retired in 1966 at age 30, he led the league in rushing eight times (a record). He also still holds the mark for most seasons leading the league in attempts (six) and most seasons leading in rushing TDs (five). Most impressively, of all the running backs who ever played and had 750 or more career attempts, Brown after all these years still has the highest average gain (5.2).2. O.J. Simpson. Lots of backs are fast but no one ever as blazingly so as Simpson (9.4 in 100-yard dash), and none with his shiftiness and eye for daylight. He was the first player to rush for 2,000 yards in a season (he did it in just 14 games) and he holds the record for most 200-yard games (six). He led the league in rushing four times.3. Emmitt Smith. When he retired in 2004 after 14 seasons, mostly with the Cowboys, the same precise footwork he displayed in winning "Dancing with the Stars" had earned him most of the NFL's career rushing records. These include most attempts (4,409), yards gained (18,355), 1,000-yard seasons (11), TDs (164) and 100-yard games (78). Enough?4. Barry Sanders. He rates as pro football's most electric runner ever with his quick, darting moves and squirming switchbacks. Before retiring abruptly (a la Brown) after just 10 seasons, he had set a record (still holds it) for most consecutive games with 100 yards (14). He is second all-time in in most 1,000-yard seasons (10) and the third all-time rusher (15,269).5. Walter Payton. He held most of the running records when he hung up his spikes in 1987 but they've since been broken. He still ranks second, though, in rushing yardage (16,726) and 100-yard games (77).6. Gale Sayers. Until he suffered bad injuries to both knees, Sayers may have been even better than his Bears colleague Payton. Three times he achieved the amazing feat of scoring a rushing TD, pass reception TD and kick return TD in a game.7. Tony Dorsett. He compiled 12,379 rushing yards in his career, second only to Payton at the time. He set the NFL record for longest run from scrimmage ... a 99-yarder.8. LaDainian Tomlinson. He holds the record for most TDs in a season (28 in 2006) and has reeled off five 200-yard rushing games. At age 29 and hopefully some mileage left on those wheels, he can add to his rank of third in career rushing TDs (115).9. Franco Harris. He rushed for 1,000 yards nine seasons but is best known for his quirky "Immaculate Reception" in his rookie year of 1972. With the Steelers trailing the Raiders 7-6 in the playoffs with five seconds to go, he snagged a Terry Bradshaw pass that had caromed off the shoulder pad of Oakland's Jack Tatum and ran it in for the winning score.10. Eric Dickerson. No one has ever topped the 2,105 yards he gained in 1984. He got to 10,000 yards rushing faster than anybody ... in just 91 games (Brown needed 98, Sanders 103, Smith 106).Among today's young RBs, Adrian Peterson of the Vikings has a chance to crack this list (he set a record last year when he gained 296 yards in a game, against a tough Chargers defense, no less) as does, presumably, rookie Darren McFadden of the Raiders. Ask me again in 2018. Marcus Allen (second in most career TDs with 123), Earl Campbell (led league in rushing three times) and John Riggins (rumbled for 11,352 yards in his career but in an oddity, he gained more yards after age 30 than before) are other guys to remember.
As millions of Americans begin to think about Christmas gift ideas it is the case that a large number of these individuals will also be looking to save as much money as possible. It is truly scary to think how bad the economy has been over the last several months and years and we do not want to dig ourselves into a huge hole when it comes to personal finances. With that being the case it will be very common for people to consider Christmas gifts that are discounted or on sale. When thinking about Eastbay Christmas gift ideas it might be smart to look for coupons or wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to take advantage of the deals and sales that could be available. When it comes to Christmas gift ideas that are for sale from Eastbay some very common gifts could include Air Jordans, NFL Jerseys or Nike shoes. There are many children and teenagers spread through the United States that love to flip through an Eastbay catalog and pick out all the great gifts that they would love to receive on December 25th. If you are a parent looking to save a little bit of extra cash in 2010 then it might be very smart to encourage your child to pick out Christmas gifts under a certain amount. Unfortunately, it seems to be the case that many sports related products keep going up in price but by keeping a budget you could save quite a bit on this years Christmas purchases. As we get closer to Thanksgiving it will be the case that many retailers begin to release their Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. This might be a great time to think about some of the items that are on sale which could give you some great discounted Christmas gift ideas. With retailers knowing that Americans will be out and about spending money on these days it will likely be the case that there are many great deals. Before deciding on buying a Christmas gift at full price it might be very smart to be patient and wait for the Black Friday sales paper to be released. This is a way in which many Americans have saved quite a bit of money over the last few years. You may even find that many sporting goods stores offer coupons and great deals as they are looking to increase profits during the holiday season.
